Catching Fish

Land the trophies and chase the big ones.

4
Look at boosting your Bait Score by maxing out your Sinker Level, Beer Score, and the Leviathan Totem on at least Day 40. Combine that with a fishing Depth of at least 2500 and a whole lot of patience!
There is no one “best” bait, but some baits are definitely better than others for certain things. If your aim is Blue Gill and Red Horse Suckers, it is recommended that you use smaller baits like worms or frogs in shallow water. If you want to catch bigger fish (or even Legendaries!) it’s recommended that you use larger baits with a Bait Value of 60+. The bait with the highest Point Value is the Troll with a score of 86!
For consistency, Docks are your best bet with most being around 500+ depth and providing access to most of the fish on the map. For size, however, Deeper Is Better! In the early game, fishing too deep can snap your line, but with an adequately upgraded Line you’ll be able to fish in increasingly deep waters. For your convenience, every map has an accessible area of 4500+ depth for nice deep fishing.
The Jeremy Wade difficulty is the best place to start, as it features a 20% bonus to the weights of any fish submitted to the LeaderBoard. Then start fishing! Try for high Bait Scores and give all the patience you can. “It takes 14,000 casts to catch the fish you want.” – Jeremy Wade

Strategy & Upgrades

Squeeze the most value out of every catch.

2
Since both methods affect your fish’s Point Value by multiplying, the order doesn’t matter! A 50 point fish with a cooking bonus of 50% will end up at 75 points, which becomes 750 points with the absolute luckiest gambling multiplier of 10x. That same fish could have been gambled first from 50 to 500 then cooked to 750.
Anything that will make the fish you catch more valuable. Prioritize the Big Grill and Fish Value early on for a 50% point boost from one and another 50% from the other when maxed out. That extra money can then go towards other upgrades, like getting a better Line to reel in bigger fish without it snapping, and the Totems like Leviathan and Fish Frenzy which are really key for hitting the higher Day Counts.

Game Modes & Features

Difficulty options, beers, hearts, and more.

3
Hardcore is a perma-death mode where bait is DESTROYED upon reloading a save. No Day Resetting here!
You drink, and then you catch big fish! Don’t go overboard though, drinking too much at once isn’t very responsible – or very safe! If the visual effects make you feel like you’ve actually drunk a few too many, you can choose to disable it in the pause menu.
The heart works as a sort of extra life. Sacrifice it at the altar in single player to give yourself 1 opportunity to cheat death after the flames sizzle purple, or do the same in multiplayer to revive 1 fallen teammate. If you sacrifice the heart in singleplayer, that extra life will disappear on leaving the game (or upon being used on death) so make sure to sacrifice a new heart for another chance.

Monsters & Combat

What goes bump in the lake at night.

1
Most of them will die if they’re introduced to a sufficient amount of TNT! The Crab Queen takes two explosions, and the Troll takes three, but most will die after only a single well-timed explosion. Flying NightTerrors, Hallucinations (such as the Large Crab), Larry The Late Night Crab, the HEV, and the Jumping Shark cannot be killed no matter how many times you try to blow them up. Maps & Items

Boats, biomes, and where the Legendaries live.

2
Boats can be spawned in the escape menu only on the Jungle map, as they have a bad habit of breaking everything they touch. Use at your own risk!
Each map has its own unique Legendary fish, aside from the Jungle and Arctic maps which are home to the Mythic fish.
